The story goest that the museum was started 30 years ago when one of Galip’s friends had to leave Avanos, and he was very sad. To leave him something to remember her by, the woman cut a piece of her hair and gave it to Galip. Since then, thousands of women from all over the world who visited this place had given him a piece of their hair and their complete address. There is another reason to for the women to leave their hair – twice a year, in June and December, 10 winners will be chosen off the walls and these lucky ten will received an all-expenses paid week long holiday in beautiful Cappadocia. And they will get to participate in his pottery workshops, for free. This is the potter’s way of giving back to the women who had helped him to create the unique museum which bring in new customers every day.
